There are even more beaches to check out at the Kensington Metropark. This park is home to two beaches, Maple Beach and Martindale Beach, and both attract big crowds throughout the year. The park surrounds Kent Lake, so you have the ability to either go swimming or canoeing. There are plenty of other beaches in the local area, so you have a lot of options to choose from.
Watch a Fireworks Show
Fireworks shows are very popular during the summer, since the displays can be easily viewed in the clear skies. People like to watch fireworks during the summer to celebrate Independence Day, so as you would expect Detroit hosts many different shows throughout the season. The most well-known show Detroit offers is the Ford Fireworks Show, and this year it will take place on June 25th at the Hart Plaza. Fireworks are launched alongside the Detroit River during this event, and food will be provided as well. Another popular show is the Salute to America, which takes place just before Independence Day. In addition to housing many different beaches, Detroit is also home to a strong collection of water parks. One option is the Wayne County Family Aquatic Center, which offers two water slides, a wave pool, and swimming lessons for new swimmers. Located nearby is the Red Oaks Waterpark, which features over sixty different attractions. If you would rather stay inside, there is the Avalanche Bay Indoor Water Park. This indoor water park has slides, hot springs, and an indoor surf simulator. If you want to stay cool during the summer you should definitely visit one of these locations.
Take a Camping Trip
Another activity that is very popular during the summer months is camping. Since the weather is really nice during the summer, many families decide to head out for a few days so they can spend some time in the great outdoors. If you want to camp at a traditional campground, the Apple Creek Campground at Grass Lake is a good choice to go with. This campground features a pool, a game room, a rec hall, and plenty of picnic areas. You can also travel to the Krystal Lake Campground in Vassar, which features a lake for fishing and a pool for swimming.
