As it gets closer and closer to Memorial Day Weekend, we are dreaming about all the summer activities we enjoy in the Motor City. Our home offers a wide variety of recreational activities to take part in, before we sadly have to welcome another bitter cold winter season. Take advantage of summer 2016 by participating in some of our favorite local activities.
Sprint & Splash
When: June 5
Where: Lake St. Clair Metropark, Harrison Township
The 5th annual Sprint & Splash is a local area favorite event on Lake St. Clair. There are different competitive events including a six mile stand-up paddle board race, duathlon (a combination of a 5K and two mile paddle board or kayak race), 5K fun run, and a two mile recreational paddleboard race. Aside from the competition, there will be food vendors, craft beer, music, and much more!
Summer Beer Fest
When: June 18
Where: Royal Oak Farmers Market
This early summer event is perfect for beer enthusiasts, with over 150 different beers and ciders to choose from! Come out for a night of beer tasting at the Summer Beer Fest while also eating delicious food.
When: June 24-26
Where: Detroit Riverfront
Come marvel at the gorgeous sites of the Detroit Riverfront. From fireworks to exceptional musical performances, there’s something for everyone at the Detroit Riverdays. Highlighted events include the Tuskeegee Air Show, riverboat tours, sand sculptures, delicious food choices, zip lining, and much more!
Salute to America
When: June 30-July 3
Where: Greenfield Village, Dearborn
Celebrate the 4th of July with delicious food, fabulous musical performances, and spectacular fireworks at the Salute to America Independence Day celebration. Indulge in picnics and different foods, prepared by an expert culinary staff. Each night, there will be a collaborative performance with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the United States Army Field Band, concert band, and soldiers’ chorus. The festivities will end with an amazing musical performance, along with canon fires, and a fireworks display.
Art in the Park
When: July 8-10
Where: Kellogg Park, Plymouth
Come visit the second largest art fair in Michigan at the Art in the Park extravaganza! This 3-day cultural event features artists from around the country displaying their paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, and much more. This event is perfect for families with educational opportunities such as candle making, painting, candy art, and more.
When: July 29-31
Where: The Inn at St. John’s, Plymouth
Come take part in a local favorite event, the Concours d’Elegance. See some of the world’s rarest cars, while taking in the beautiful sites at the Inn at St. John’s. Watch the Sotheby’s Motor City Auction in which car enthusiasts will bid to purchase the vehicle of their dreams.
Detroit Tigers Game
When: Variety of Home Games Throughout the Summer
Where: Comerica Park
Come spend a day out by supporting your local Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Throughout the summer, there are various home games where you can take in the thrill and competitiveness of America’s pastime. Enjoy the outdoors, eat a delicious hot dog, and cheer on your team!
