Matrix Human Services: Spreading Holiday Cheer in Detroit

Matrix Human Services was started in 1906 as a way to advocate and service the most vulnerable people in the metropolitan Detroit, MI area. The goal of this organization is to empower individuals and families to enhance their quality of life and achieve efficiency. Matrix achieves these goals by educating children, supporting families and rebuilding neighborhoods. The organization is now operating in more than 40 Detroit locations and only hopes to go up from there. Services are provided to more than 25,000 individuals and families on an annual basis. The Aspire (Adults, Students, Parents, Inspiring Radical Empowerment) Matrix Model works to break the generational cycle of poverty and benefit the families in need. Below we have discussed ways in which Matrix Human Services is benefiting our community throughout this holiday season.

The Annual Angel Tree Program

The Annual Angel Tree Program

The Matrix Center’s annual Angel Tree Program was implemented to ensure that no family goes without this Holiday Season. Sponsoring a family or child means that you’ll have access to a wish list that outlines their specific wants and needs. This program is unique in the way sponsors are able to meet their family over lunch to present the gifts themselves. This year the event was held on December 10, and included arts and crafts, food, face painting and holiday pictures for all families involved. Due to the generous amount of support over 130 families had their wishes granted.

Holiday Charity Challenge Fundraiser

Holiday Charity Challenge Fundraiser

In order to pay it forward to an organization that does so much for the community, the Holiday Charity Fundraiser was started. All donated funds will go directly to Matrix Human Services and be used for needed roof repairs, client services and building utilities.
